Applied and

Devised Theatre

I have a deep interest and commitment in experimenting with the implementation of ideas and practices which support innovative theater projects.   My projects focus on creating original plays through Devised, Applied and Community Engaged Playmaking which focus around diversity issues, microaggressions, LGBTQ inclusivity and social engagement.  In addition to developing original work and directing, I am co-founder of Sanctuary Stage, a nonprofit theater company that has its roots in California and has continued to produce projects in Oregon. The process in creating this work involves the collaboration and participation of members of diverse communities and a creative team.  The objective of this process is to develop and produce an original play which is crafted through this collaboration.  Projects of this nature strengthen inter-generational and cross-cultural relationships between those from different professions, ages, cultures and economic backgrounds. These projects also provide sustainability for future community arts projects through the professional training that is provided during these projects.

Most recently, an article focusing on Sanctuary Stage has been published in the International Journal of Social, Political and Community Agendas in the Arts, Volume 15 Issue 1, Oregon's Sanctuary Stage:  Giving Voice to the Voiceless;  written by Dr. Barbara Sellers-Young former Dean of the School of Arts, Media, Performance, and Design of York University.   ( a link below to the article)
