Play-in-a-Day

An annual event launched in 2008 has become a cornerstone of my mission to foster creativity and community collaboration. The event brings together playwrights, directors, and actors to engage in a unique, intensive creative process, culminating in the production of ten-minute plays.

The central theme for each iteration is announced, providing a shared framework that guides the creative exploration of all participating artists. Over the course of just 24 hours, these teams work tirelessly—writing, directing, rehearsing, and refining—to bring their plays to life. The pressure of the limited timeframe fuels a dynamic, spontaneous approach, pushing the boundaries of traditional theatre-making.

The result is a collection of original, thought-provoking plays that are performed before a live audience. Following the performances, a Q&A session invites both the audience and the artists to reflect on the creative journey and the themes explored. This event not only showcases the depth and diversity of emerging voices in theatre but also highlights the power of collaboration, adaptability, and the rapid-fire creative process, fostering a vibrant dialogue between artists and audiences alike.
