As a faculty member at LBCC, I developed the Touring Puppet Theatre course, an innovative program that combines artistic education with community engagement. In this 10-week course, students function as a professional touring company, creating and performing puppet productions tailored for local elementary schools. The repertoire spans traditional Western fairy tales, multicultural narratives, and bilingual folk tales, ensuring diverse and enriching storytelling experiences.

Students receive comprehensive training in puppeteering, voice acting, music, and production roles, including assistant directing. Over six weeks, the company performs twice weekly, providing young audiences with imaginative and dynamic live theater experiences. Each school receives a thoughtfully prepared study guide for classroom discussions and puppet-making activities, extending the educational impact of the performances.

After each show, students lead an interactive Q&A session and offer a behind-the-scenes tour of the puppet theater, fostering curiosity and engagement among young learners. This course not only hones students' skills as performers and collaborators but also reinforces the transformative power of theater in connecting with the community.
